Religious Education
Religious Education for children is designed to prepare them to live sustainably in the world, understanding they are part of nature. It includes (1) classroom learning, (2) direct experience in nature and
(3) practice in repairing environmental damage.
Our Religious Education Department has been educating our children on the UU 7th principle for the past several years. The Director of RE, volunteers, children and youth are doing an outstanding job of leading us as a Green Sanctuary.
Recent events include the May 10th '08 bake sale and screening of a documentary to raise funds for and awareness of the homeless and migrant workers of Florida. The high school youth earned nearly $300.
And on May 24th '08 nearly $2000 was raised to benefit our RE program through a rummage sale--perfect example of reusing.
The annual family camp-out was Fri & Sat nights (Jan 16th & 17th '09) when 14 of us slept in our tents -- then we hosted 38 UUs & friends for the community cookout Saturday evening. We clearly felt a part of nature and not outside it.
